|
Johnny Firpo (Terence Hill) is an officer in the Navy. He gets the order to stop the illegal gambling in Miami, which has already driven so many soldiers to ruin. His brother Charlie (Bud Spencer), an expert in the gambling milieu, is supposed to support him. Bad luck that Charlie has turned his back on the milieu and is now earning his money honestly as a trucker. Only with a trick Johnny finally manages to pull Charlie to his side. Together they make life difficult for the gang of the gambling godfather Karaboulis until it finally comes to the showdown on the yacht of "The Greek".
Odds and evens is the eleventh joint film of the duo Spencer/Hill (not including Hannibal). Like its predecessor Crime Busters it was shot in Miami.
In Germany, 5.24 million viewers saw the film in cinemas. The film was the most successful film of 1978 behind Star Wars. Star Wars, however, was only able to beat this result thanks to two re-releases. In the premiere year the duo Skywalker/Solo also lost against Spencer/Hill.
The great success of the film prompted the German youth magazine "Bravo" to publish the film as a film photo novel in four consecutive issues. These were the issues 4 to 7 of 1979.
The original title of the film is "Pari e dispari", which translates as "Odds end evens". This is, of course, an allusion to the topic of gambling in the movie, but on the other hand the title also describes the dichotomy of the duo Spencer/Hill very well.
As a director, italo-western veteran Sergio Corbucci (among others known for Django, The great Silence, The White, the Yellow, and the Black) was behind the camera for the first time in a Spencer/Hill film. He has a cameo appearance in the film as guest commentator at the car race. A little later he shot Super Snopper and Who finds a Friend finds a Treasure with Spencer/Hill.
Bud Spencer is seen in a scene on a large photo without a beard. This picture is from 1967 and shows him as mine owner Cooper, his role in the western "Beyond the Law".
Luciano Catenacci can once again be seen in the role of the superior villain, here he is "The Greek". In Crime Busters he already played the head gangster Fred.
Ninfus, the Greek's right hand, is played by Salvatore Borgese, who was seen eight times alongside Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. However, Borgese has special memories of Odds and evens, because it was here that he met his acting colleague Kim McKay. The actress and Borgese were then a couple for 12 years.
Bud Spencer's son Giuseppe Pedersoli has a small role as a naval officer in the film.
The squash-like ball game in the film is the sport Jai Alai, which was very popular in Florida at that time. Charlie Firpo, played by Bud Spencer, takes the place of the aging star Jamón Serrano, whose name is of course an allusion to the Spanish ham of the same name. Bud Spencer's opponents are all active Jai Alai players.
The soundtrack of the film was written by Guido and Maurizio De Angelis. It's their sixth soundtrack for a Spencer/Hill film in a row, at the same time it's their last work for a common film. From now on they only wrote for Bud Spencer's solo films before composing the music for Terence Hill's Doc West in 2008.
The soundtrack of the film has not yet been released in its entirety. With the release of the film a single with the title song Brotherly Love was released. The song Switch from the B-side of the single can also be heard in the film. It can be heard in the bar when Hill meets Kim McKay for the first time, who then introduces him to the poker game. During the poker round runs the song The Man on the Boat, which was released together with Miss Robot also on a single. Miss Robot can be heard in the movie in the scene where Bud feeds his dolphins in the truck. Furthermore, in the pistachio ice cream scene the title song White Yellow and Black from the movie The White, the Yellow, and the Black can be heard in the background and also Angels and Beans from Even Angels eat Beans runs again when Bud destroys the restaurant during his rage. So at least six songs from the film were released in the end, sadly not together on one album.

Johnny Firpo (Terence Hill) ist Offizier bei der Marine und hat es dort zu vielen Ehren gebracht. Er erhält den Auftrag das illegale Glücksspiel in Miami zu unterbinden, das schon so viele Soldaten in den Ruin getrieben hat. Unterstützen soll ihn dabei sein Bruder Charlie (Bud Spencer), ein alter Hase im Glücksspielmilieu mit umfangreichen Verbindungen. Dumm nur, dass Charlie dem Milieu den Rücken gekehrt hat und sich jetzt als Trucker sein Geld auf ehrliche Weise verdient. Nur mit einem Trick gelingt es Johnny schließlich Charlie auf seine Seite zu ziehen. Zusammen machen sie nun der Bande des Glücksspiel-Paten Karaboulis das Leben schwer. Und da "der Gang zum Griechen immer lohnt, auch wenn er etwas weiter wohnt" kommt es schließlich bald zum Showdown auf der Yacht "des Griechen".
Zwei sind nicht zu bremsen ist der elfte gemeinsame Film des Duos Spencer/Hill (Hannibal nicht eingerechnet). Er wurde wie sein Vorgänger Zwei außer Rand und Band in Miami gedreht.
In Deutschland sahen den Film 5,24 Millionen Zuschauer in den Kinos. Der Film war damit der erfolgreichste Film des Jahres 1978 hinter Krieg der Sterne. Letzterer konnte diese Zahl aber nur Dank zweier Wiederaufführungen schlagen. Im Premierenjahr hatte das Duo Skywalker/Solo gegen Spencer/Hill ebenfalls das Nachsehen.
Der große Erfolg des Films führte dazu, dass die Jugendzeitschrift "Bravo" den Film als "Film-Foto-Roman" in vier aufeinander folgenden Ausgaben veröffentlichte. Es waren die Ausgaben 4 bis 7 des Jahres 1979.
Der Originaltitel des Films lautet "Pari e dispari", was übersetzt "Gerade und ungerade" bedeutet. Dies ist zum einen natürlich eine Anspielung auf das Thema Glücksspiel im Film, aber zum anderen beschreibt der Titel auch sehr gut die Gegensätzlichkeit des Duos Spencer/Hill.
Die deutsche Fassung entstand bei der Deutschen Synchron in Berlin. Für das Dialogbuch und die Dialogregie war Karlheinz Brunnemann verantwortlich. Terence Hill wird wie üblich von Thomas Danneberg gesprochen, auf Bud Spencer ist Martin Hirthe zu hören.
Als Regisseur stand erstmals bei einem Spencer/Hill-Film Italo-Western Veteran Sergio Corbucci (u.a. bekannt für Django, Leichen pflastern seinen Weg, Stetson) hinter der Kamera. Er hat im Film einen Cameo-Auftritt als Gastkommentator beim Autorennen. Wenig später drehte er mit Spencer/Hill noch Der Supercop und Zwei Asse trumpfen auf.
Bud Spencer ist in einer Szene auf einem großen Foto ohne Bart zu sehen. Dieses Bild stammt aus dem Jahr 1967 und zeigt ihn als Minenbesitzer Cooper, seiner Rolle in dem Western Die letzte Rechnung zahlst Du selbst.
In der Rolle des Oberschurken "Der Grieche" ist erneut Luciano Catenacci zu sehen. Dieser spielte auch schon in Zwei außer Rand und Band den Obergangster Fred vom Hafen.
Ninfus, die rechte Hand des Griechen, wird gespielt von Salvatore Borgese, der insgesamt acht Mal an der Seite von Bud Spencer und Terence Hill zu sehen war. An Zwei sind nicht zu bremsen hat Borgese allerdings besondere Erinnerungen, denn hier lernte er Schauspielkollegin Kim McKay kennen. Die Darstellerin der Mullemaus und Borgese waren im Anschluss für 12 Jahre ein Paar.
Bud Spencers Sohn Giuseppe Pedersoli ist in dem Film kurz in der Rolle eines Marineoffiziers zu sehen.
Bei dem Squash-ähnlichen Ballspiel im Film handelt es sich um die damals in Florida sehr beliebte Sportart Jai Alai. Darüber hinaus läuft in der Pistazieneis-Szene der Titelsong White Yellow and Black aus dem Film Stetson - Drei Halunken erster Klasse und auch Angels and Beans aus Auch die Engel essen Bohnen ist noch einmal zu hören, als Bud während seines Wutanfalls das Lokal zerstört. Somit sind am Ende doch immerhin sechs Songs aus dem Film veröffentlicht worden, wenn auch leider nicht gemeinsam auf einem Album.

A Bud Spencer-Terence Hill páros fergeteges bunyókkal és sok humorral átszõtt kalandfilmje, melyben ezúttal a féltestvérek – Johhny rendõrtiszt és Charlie Firpo volt szerencsejátékos – újra megtanítják a maffiát kesztyûbe dudálni…
Megfogadtam, hogy többé nem fogadok - szólt Charlie, a becsületes kamionos, ám késõbb rá kellett jönnie, hogy elhamarkodotta nyilatkozott...
Az egykori szupersztár, ám mára visszavonult és apácákat segélyezõ ex-szerencsejátékos ugyanis fogadalmával ellentétben mégiscsak kénytelen tétet emelni. Életét ugyanis megkeseríti a zsugabubus-bájgúnár Johnny, aki nem csupán Charlie hagymásbabjára vet szemet, de pár átverést követõen a derék kamionost is megszabadítja járgányától. Charlie persze kétségbeesetten fut a pénze után, ám nemsokára ismét összetalálkozik Johnnyval és ekkor összeomlik körülötte a világ. Kiderül, hogy a pimasz szõke nem más, mint a saját öccse, aki csupán azért veti be pénzszerzési trükkjeit, hogy vak apukájukon segíthessen. Az érzõ keblû Charlie természetesen betársul fivéréhez, és az újdonsült Firpo testvérek nekilátnak, hogy tonnás pofonok és géppuskaöklözések fedezékében a helyi szerencsejáték-maffiával szembeszállva elõteremtsék a pénzt drága Papijuk szemmûtétére. Mi pedig a végére többek között elmerülhetünk a játékbarlangok puszta kézzel történõ tönkretételének rejtelmeiben, megtudhatjuk, milyen nyelveken beszélnek a Fripo család tagjai és vajon okkal vagy ok nélkül hangzik-e fel percenként a legendás szólam: "Bunkó vagy, Bugsy!"
A törvény ereje Miamiban nem képes megfékezni a maffiát, a Parapolis nevû hírhedt görög tartja a markában a kaszinókat és a fogadóirodákat. O’Connor admirális megelégeli a dolgot, és hadat üzen az alvilágnak. Johnny Firpo hadnagyot bízza meg az akció lebonyolításával. Johnnynak van egy féltestvére, a kissé nagydarab Charlie, aki régen maga is szerencsejátékosként kereste kenyerét, mára azonban már jó útra tért és békés sofõrként tengeti mindennapjait. Johhnynak szüksége van testvére segítségére, ezért azt hazudja neki, hogy apjuk megfog vakulni, ha nem kap megfelelõ kezelést, ehhez viszont pénz kell, sok-sok pénz. Pénzhez pedig kártyával lehet jutni. Charlie pedig némi habozás után betanítja a kártyatrükkökre testvérét, igy a két fivér nyerési sorozatba kezd. A görög pontot akar tenni az ügy végére, akár úgy, hogy elnyeri a két férfi pénzét, akár úgy, hogy elintézi õket, ezért magához rendeli Johhnyt luxusjachtjára.
Egy sorsdöntõ pókerjátszmában aztán Johhny elnyeri Parapolis jachtját és egymillió dollárját. Charlie eközben attól tart, hogy Johnny kockára teszi azt a pénzt, amit eddig gyûjtöttek a szemmûtétre, ezért testvére után megy a hajóra. Éppen jókor érkezik, megmenti fivérét a görög bosszújától és ketten együtt elintézik az egész bandát… |
