Tony Roma is a real women's hero who uses his attractive charm to approach rich women to steal their jewellery. But when he steals the jewellery of Senator Anderson, his problems begin. Among the pieces of jewellery is a ring with a personal dedication of the mafia boss Don Salvatore. Finally Lieutenant Alan Parker of the Special Department obtained the order to find Roma. Alan just wants to go on holiday with his family and is not happy about the task. But with the help of his camouflage as a household appliance representative, he finds Tony and arrests him. Tony hands over a pawn ticket for the jewellery at the police station. Then he escapes with the help of a trickery. When the Senator receives the jewellery, he notices that the ring is still missing and puts Captain Browning under renewed pressure. So he again assigns Alan with the search for Tony Roma. Meanwhile, Tony has once again taken on a rich woman, but has to hide from her jealous husband. He hides in a hotel room, where he has to watch Don Salvatore killing an rival personally. His hiding place is discovered, but Tony can escape. From now the Mafia is after him too. Finally Alan succeeds in arresting Tony again and handing him over to the police. This policeman, however, does not take him to prison, but calls the killers of Don Salvatore. Tony can escape with difficulty and follows Alan on his vacation, because he can't trust anyone else. When the gangsters attack Alan's family and Tony succeeds in convincing him of the corrupt policemen, Alan takes care of it and tries to catch the mafia boss and the senator with his own methods. "Cats and Dogs" is also known as "Thieves and robbers". "Cats and Dogs" was Bud's first solo film made in Miami. Together with Terence Hill, he shot three times in sunny Florida before. Tomas Milián can be seen in the role of the freaked-out gangster Tony Roma. The Cuban-born actor made a name for himself in the 1960s with various Italo westerns and was even able to increase his popularity from the mid-1970s onwards with his role of Commissioner Nico Giraldi in various police comedies. During this time he also took part in "Cane e gatto". In the role of mafia boss Don Licuti we can see Marc Lawrence, who is an old acquaintance. Thanks to his scarred face, Lawrence was predestined to play the role of the villain. He also played the super villain in 1980 in Super Fuzz and even in 1951 in Terence Hills debut film Holiday for gangsters. "Cane e gatto" was the first of three films directed by Bruno Corbucci in the Spencer/Hill universe. The younger brother of Sergio Corbucci previously contributed the screenplays to four films, which were mostly directed by Sergio Corbucci. Bruno Corbucci has a short cameo appearance as conductor in the film. In addition to director Bruno Corbucci, Bud Spencer's son Giuseppe Pedersoli also has a cameo appearance. He can be seen as a motel clerk. The original title of the film is "Cane e gatto", which translates to "dog and cat". The title of course alludes to the relationship between the characters of Bud Spencer and Tomas Milián, who constantly clash with each other like dogs and cats. The title song Cats and Dogs is sung by "Ranger Rick and the Coyotes". The song and the rest of the soundtrack were composed by Carmelo and Michelangelo La Bionda, who wrote the music for five Spencer/Hill movies. The title song was released in 1983 as vinyl single.
